A partnership was signed with BHEL to create the country's first ever Management Institute that would be housed inside an industrial giant. Thus was born Bharathidasan Institute of Management - School of Excellence.
BIM has pioneered the concept of a business school with an industry linkage through its symbiotic relationship with BHEL since its inception in 1984.
Senior Executives of BHEL anchor courses particularly in the areas of Operations, Management and Systems. BIM conducts a number of Executive Development Programs for BHEL in the areas of Corporate Finance, Marketing and Organizational Behaviour. Students also take-up various projects offered by BHEL in different functional areas of management.
BIM has forged a tie-up with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) for developing systems and methodologies for finding solutions to problems faced by Small Scale Industries.
Managing Information Technology and using it as a key source of competitive advantage has been recognized as one of the thrust areas for future research and training in BIM and so BIM is interacting with various companies like Wipro Sonata and Ramco Systems in areas like curriculum development training and summer internship. These collaborations provide the students with hands on exposure to leading software packages and get up to date knowledge on emerging trends in the field of Information Technology.
The core faculty in the various streams are backed with academic knowledge and industry experience and they actively work on research projects throughout the year. The academic structure at BIM is such that the academic inputs provided by the core faculty is backed by industrial knowledge imparted by the Guest Lectures.
The students at BIM come from a multitude of educational backgrounds. While roughly half of the students are engineers the rest is composed of a melange of commerce arts and science graduates. Candidates with prior work experience are preferred but outstanding freshers are also encouraged. This is substantiated by the fact that more than half the class enters the course backed with prior experience in the industry.
Focused Career Planning and Placement leading to challenging management positions.
Admission to BIM is through Common Admission Test (CAT), conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). In addition to appearing for the CAT Exam, candidates have to apply separately for admission to BIM. Candidates shortlisted based on CAT score will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview before the final selection is made.
